Cats who bite or scratch when petted

Good cats can go bad when petted. They may hiss or swat or bite your hand. Several pets, scratches, or strokes may be tolerated and then Wam! Yell at him? Hose him? Give up on sharing affection with a kitty you love? Much better – find out why a sweet cat would do such a thing and manage the cause. It may not be behavioral – or it might. Itchy skin from mange mites or allergies is a common problem in kitties, including those who live strictly indoors. You may not notice much scratching or rubbing but their skin can be quite sensitive. Getting touched can be miserable. Start with an exam by your veterinarian. Treatment for external parasites is safe and may solve the problem even if no mites are found.
